Every season on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River presents a variety of highs, lows, joys, adventures, and many incredible new experiences. Below are some of the takeaways from the 2021 season.

Pilots

We owe a huge thank you to all the dedicated pilots who flew around Idaho and into the backcountry this summer. We certainly appreciate all the hard work! If it wasn’t for the backcountry pilots, we wouldn’t have been able to raft the rivers we love.

Sweep Boat

Even with the record low water the sweep boat and the drivers had a phenomenal season. It wasn’t smooth all the time, but the IRJ crew was able to successfully navigate the behemoth of a boat down the river.

Traveling around Idaho/Montana

In the past two years, the IRJ office staff has noticed a shift in how our guests travel. Many of our guests have extended their travels beyond the Middle Fork of the Salmon, and explored around Idaho and Montana. We recognized this new opportunity for guests and wanted to provide them with our list of things to do in those areas. We hope that our recommendations will add value to your road trip, or intrigue you to plan your own.

Disconnected with Friends and Family

There’s no substitute for human connection. There’s nothing like breaking away from the screen and sharing the joys of vacationing on a wild river surrounded by friends and family.

Moment of Zen

Experience the spectacular wilderness landscape of the Frank Church Wilderness.

IRJ Guides

The difference between a good trip and a great one comes down to the guides—and the Idaho River Journeys crew is truly one of the best! The crew worked tirelessly from June to September. They have a collective passion for the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, and truly love to share its wonder with guests.
