Middle Fork Salmon River Trip Report: June 3–7, 2026

Velvet Falls Paddle Boat

Our June 3rd launch is always a blast. At 4.2 feet, the Middle Fork was running fast and full — big water in the rapids, incredible hiking, and a canyon that had fully come alive. Camas flowers blanketed the hillsides in waves of violet, and a mayfly hatch was in full swing — one of those early-June moments that feels like the river is waking up all at once.

The crew camped at Johns Creek, White Creek, Little Pine, and Ship Island — a classic progression through the heart of the Frank Church Wilderness. Between camps, guests got after some great hikes and ran some memorable whitewater over five days in one of the most remote river canyons in the American West.

If you’ve been thinking about a June trip on the Middle Fork Salmon River, this is why we love this launch.
